    Archie helped show white america itself. It was open and honest free speech that made bigotry exposed and a thing to laugh at. It taught us to not be afraid of words or each other. Archie took all the power away from hatred by showing us it is truly ridiculous.

    I think it's just a TV show. The Jeffersons, Sandford and Son all the popular shows back then, were like this. These shows and the shows today, all go by what is actually gonna on at that moment in time. Ignorant is a blissful. A show this old, is the same as today. Look at Israel and Palestinian. We as a country have come along way. Every raise has gone through something. Again this is a show. Make believe. Pretend. God made everyone in his likely-ness.

    Archie Bunker is one of the greatest if not THE greatest satirical character comedians of all time. Which in turn, and with a fantastic cast makes All in the family one of if not the greatest sitcom of all time to date. (But if you want to go by ratings then it's absolutely one of if not the greatest sitcom of all time. Keeping in mind the population from then until now).

    look archie bunker was an actor and i think you need to go back and do ur research on this man he was catholic in real lifeand archie bucker was anticatholic. he grew up around alot of archie bunkers and the show was showing what the world was like and what it was going thru. his views were nothing like archie bunkers so before anyone cast him as a horrible person please do your research on what he was doing showing the other side of what a lot of people in US was and dealing with no more no less. he was a true legend he played in over i believe 100 roles he addressed what truly was going on in US if he hadnt been for these shows today we wouldnt of know what truly was going on in the US it changed the history of US showing true issues going on in US on both ends

    Archie was over the top, but his character pointed out bigotry using humor. I'm sure there were some people watching who believed what he was saying, but most people thought he was ridiculous. The show did make people aware of social issues wirh humor instead of preaching.

    Norman Lear was the creator/producer of wicked smart comedies;. All in the Family had 7[!] spinoffs: Sanford & Son, Maude, Once Day at a Time, The Jeffersons, Mary Hartman Mary Hartman & Good Times. He wrote/created or produced over a hundred shows in all! What a writer; lots of his shows gave the world numerous 'firsts ever seen on tv!'

    I’m reading comments from really everybody and we all seem to agree (I’m white) that in some ways we were better off because although there were prejudices of course but we weren’t all so triggered. We got along a lot better and we could tease each other and we did and people weren’t looking to blow things up to the extent they are today. In a lot of ways we really haven’t progressed from thete

    I’m commenting as I listen to you two talk. Most people had prejudices. I’m from SoCal and so I was in and out of other kids houses and the Jewish families felt they were superior, the Asian families the same and etc. I felt this was brave to take this kind of project on as white writers and actors and shouldering the burden of being the big racist when virtually everyone was

    The show is also very honest, Jefferson’s character (black) is also quite the racist. The show was brilliant for not turning away from the hard topics. It pulled everything out into the light forcing Americans to really look at these behaviors

    How to explain . . Archie bunkers character, our fathers were a little like AB but no one I knew was this outrageous. It was a brave show because it didn’t shirk away from just saying these outrageous beliefs out loud. I think that only when you pull something out into the light where it can be examined by all instead of whispered or not so whispered behind closed doors do you have the opportunity and exposure to really look at the behavior. I know you’re shocked hearing this but I would say that this show was groundbreaking and instrumental in holding people accountable for these kind of views. The show ran for a while and AB character did experience a lot of growth which I believe helped America see the possibility of change

People often forget that we believe in Jesus Christ and we are ridiculed for what we believe. Im sorry but we get ridiculed all the time and nobody seems to care they do that in front us

    I was born in 1965 in Las Vegas Nevada and we are white. My Dad and Mom grew up in Salt Lake City Utah and my Mom didn’t see a black person until she was 15! But she was not bigoted and I thought my Dad was too. I found out he was a little. I was seven, 2nd grade and a black boy started calling to talk to me. I didn’t like him because he was just disruptive all the time. a couple days later he called again and I didn’t want to talk to him. My Dad came home at the same time the boy called. He firmly said to me he was going to talk to the boy. Then he was mean to the boy and yelled at him! I was shocked. Even seven years old I really knew he was a bigot but he didn’t know that. His parents said the N word all the time until I was about 6 months old and he told them to stop. I loved All in the Family always but my Dad hated it. I didn’t know why. But when I was in 6th grade I read Roots and then I understood. My Dad was born in 1940 and he grew up with the black people weren’t as intelligent the white people. A lot of people on both sides were very prejudice and slavery. Now it’s a whole lot better.🙂

    John Carroll O'Conner is not a racist, just FYI. He plays a character that is. All in the Family was known for this. He's a racist father that grew up in the 30s and 40s in the US and raised with these "beliefs" and carried them to his later years. Archie Bunker "is" a racist, but that is part of the premise of this show. His children were both liberal and tried to bring some enlightenment to Archie, but like any old man, he's stuck in his ways. If you wanna see the other side of a racist character, just watch Sanford and Son, with Red Fox. Show was on about the same time as All in the Family and some of the things that Fred Sanford would say would never be aired on TV today. The premise is old men from the 70s, that were raised in a time when racism was rampant, and part of the social norm. In Sanford and Son, Lamont, Fred's son, is the voice of reason as Gloria and Michael (Archie's kids) are the voice of reason in All in the Family. But Carroll O'Conner is not a racist by any means...he just played this character well, and the character is written up as a racist.

    Unfortunately this was the way it was back in the 70s. Carroll O'Connor wasn't like this in real life. He agreed to play this part to show people how ridiculous they sounded. He did believe in equality and even marched for equal rights.

    Archie thought of himself as an “American” and anyone different from him CULTURALLY was a target for bigotry. Race was just one variable that he would use to identify “otherness”, religion or politics or nationality or ethnicity or gender or sexuality were are grounds for discrimination, and markers that in his mind indicated the other person wasn’t a “real American”.

  • @honestone490
    @honestone490 5 днів тому

    The whole point of the show wasn't to change Archie. It was to have the TV viewers see a part of themselves in the Archie character which they didn't want to admit does exist within themselves. Hopefully to bring about change in all of us Archie to some back then was considered a loveable bigot. Today 50 years later, we should all know that a bigot is just that a bigot. Or do we? A thought provoking comedy even today

    Hey guys everyone has had their Archie Bunker moments, that’s why we forgive others for their offenses. I’m a 70 year old man and you young folks make me proud and give me peace in my heart that everything will be fine, despite the lunacy and the mess that my generation has laid on all of you . The generation of teens who are becoming adults are phenomenal and they are the ones who will save us from our past mistakes. Anyway, I love watching and listening to you all reacting to something that I experienced when I was your age. May God bless all of you and your UA-cam channel too. You guys keep making them and I will keep watching them. Later
